Safety - Our First Priority

Safety is the most important aspect of our program and we go to great lengths to ensure the safety of all of the children in our care. Our field mentors, therapists, executive team and all staff are extensively trained in safety, rescue and first aid procedures designed Safety Dogto maximize safety. In addition the Elements program itself is designed to minimize risks associated with the outdoors by engaging in exhaustive safety protocols and by maintaining easy access to emergency services. We select routes and locations that feel remote but are close to emergency resources and easy to access; cell phones and iridium satellite phones keep field staff in constant communication with other staff members, and give them immediate access to Life Flight and other emergency services. We also have a field director and other emergency response staff on-call 24 hours a day.

All field mentors are trained in First Aid and CPR, and at least one field mentor in every group has an advanced Wilderness First Responder certification. Every field mentor is extensively screened by the Utah Department of Human Services to further ensure staff quality and student safety.

Your son will be seen by a licensed physician for a complete physical prior to enrollment to ensure his physical readiness for the program, and he will be seen every 14 days in the field for follow-up health checks. Additional doctor visits can be arranged as needed.
Elements Wilderness Program provides healthy food options that vary each day. Food is never withheld or used as a consequence and our diet consists of approximately 3,000 calories daily, depending on what a student chooses to eat. We provide an ample supply of fresh water daily to each group. Students will be outfitted head to toe with the best wilderness gear available to protect them from the elements.
