Amanda was born and raised in Vermont. She grew up going skiing, snowboarding, and hiking in the Green and White Mountains with her family. She attended the University of Vermont, where she studied English and Special Education. Her love for traveling brought her to Ireland for a semester abroad. Before coming to Elements, she worked as a paraeducator, working with students with disabilities. She has worked with adolescents for many years both in school settings and as a snowboard instructor.
The summer of 2013 is when she truly fell in love with backpacking after doing the New England section of the Appalachian Trail. This experience was personally transformative for her and she saw the power of being in nature has to help people heal and grow. Her passion for the outdoors and helping young people drew her to Elements.
