Growing up along the banks of the Wabash River in Lafayette, Indiana, Taylor found his way to nature by spending hours hiking trails and kayaking in any kind of water he could find. As a kid, he loved spending time in Michigan enjoying the beauty of the sand and sun.
The Hoosier State was a great place to learn about hard work and goal setting but far from mountains and the educational opportunities he wanted. He took out his frustration with the flat lands of Indiana by using sticks to pound on any object within reach. He became a pretty good percussionist and actually toured with a band through Europe. Not-to-be distracted from his mission to live closer to nature, he worked steadily to earn, save and to challenge himself physically for an outdoor career.
He completed the National Outdoor Leadership School Alaska Outdoor Leadership course. He found that he was at his best as he gained certifications in backpacking and sea kayaking while learning that the dynamics of problem solving in the field and teamwork. The expedition training was satisfying and rewarding. At Elements, he has found a great combination of meaningful work in an outdoor setting that feeds his soul.
Taylor spends his free time hiking, backpacking and jamming with musical folks of any genre.
